"In the beleaguered music industry’s latest bid to generate more money from its content, two top music labels on Tuesday will introduce Vevo, a Web site for music videos.

Vevo is co-owned by the Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and the Abu Dhabi Media Company. Vevo said Monday that it had signed up a third major music label, EMI Music, as a video provider, leaving only one holdout among the big four labels, Warner Music. Vevo said conversations with Warner were continuing.

Videos on Vevo will be hosted and streamed by YouTube, the video site owned by Google. The site will come online in the United States and Canada on Tuesday evening."

Do you guys have any insight/guess about the business model of Vevo? What will Google provide other than streaming tech and Google channels? Digital Rights Management (identify unauthorized copies and give owner various options)? Advertising platform? Social features?

Sorry for not searching this by myself but it ain't easy on Google mobile, even in real time :)

<<We're sorry, Vevo is not currently available in your country>>

They'll get money from the adverts, whether your in the USA, UK, France, Belgium, wherever, so why block us?

That's to bad, you can see how the website looks through hidemyass.com. But video's don't work then.

Above 6 comments were made in the forum before this was blogged,

Interestingly there are YouTube channels for VEVO which aren't geoblocked from what I can see.

Take this one for artist Yusuf (Cat Stevens): http://www.youtube.com/user/YusufVEVO The one video plays here in the UK. Searching channels for VEVO brings up many more, which seem to play perfectly fine. Perhaps something they overlooked.

Tell me what you guys want to see. I'm not particularly interested (I do live in Canada, but they don't have a lot of J-Pop songs on that site)

Here are some PrintScreen 'photos' that I took a couple of minutes ago.

I think its the music companies which would have forced this ridiculous geoblocking move. This is firing a shot at yourself. Long live youtube & piracy
