"There’s no official API for the text-to-speech service. But Weston Ruter noticed that anyone can access the service in the same way Google does:" http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/12/14/the-unofficial-google-text-to-speech-api/
just change the URL to whatever you want it to say and you’ll get back a MP3 file: translate.google.com/translate_tts?q=<text limited to 100 characters here>
example: http://translate.google.com/translate_tts?q=Blogoscoped+contains+80+percent+Google Should give you an mp3 file of "Blogoscoped contains 80 percent Google" |
It looks like its already gone |
I can't access it – I guess Tony had to report it and they shut it down – lol |
The domain may need to be "translate.google.com". Philipp had "www.google.com" in the second example.
try: http://translate.google.com/translate_tts?q=What,+Me+Worry |
(For what it's worth, both variants work here...) |
It works for me, tested it on both Chrome and IE6.
If you have problems in viewing it on your browser then right-click on those link and select "Save Link/Target As", then you'll get the mp3 file. ;) |
For some reason the ones people are posting are not working for me, but if I replace text in URL with something else it works great. |

Wonder if it's related to a referrer check... i.e. if you click through from my link, the referrer will be blogoscoped.com/something/... but if you enter something yourself, the referrer will be empty. |
We already wrote about that hack on this forum when "Google translate as you type" was launched last month.
[location added ~ TOMHTML] |
For those of you who can't get it to work, it's most likely due to your browser not being able to play back the file. Try using Chrome or IE |
It works here but the last word is cut of.....even if it is a very short sentence.
Always the LAST word is pronounced like 50% or so,,,,
weird; any ideas why?
