I saw it last night in 2D and even still it was (in my opinion) the single greatest piece of cinema of all time. Flawless. Movies will never be the same for me. The trailers just didn't do it justice and I can tell it would be fantastic in 3D from what I saw. I can't wait to buy the Blu-ray

I saw it in 3D, it was good movie for sure, but not so fantastic as others are suggesting. The visual side, effects, 3D were great but there still were moments where I was bored. What I didn't like: many stereotypical elements, story was often predictable, the fact that Na'vi did win (this was just too impossible).

The movie is definitely a visual feast, cannot be enjoyed on dvd,Likely to even win a few academy awards.
Avoid missing it. But must watch it in 3D.

i don't disagree that few moments are stereotypical like Bollywood movies but still enjoyable
James Cameroon either likes indian mythology very much or sees india as a potential multimillion market, may be either. Na'vi win is also very creative I don't think its too impossible.

Napoleon Bonaparte says nothing is impossible ;)

Well, nothing's impossible... but I found it a bit funny :)
It was a typical Hollywood movie – containing bits od comedy, romance, action, horror etc. to attract the widest possible audience. Besides effects and 3D, Avatar is nothing new or special... for me the best 2009 movie was Inglorious Basterds.
