<<Google is an amazing company, even more so from the inside. To the outside world Google is just search. But Google has made three big bets on the future of computing; Chrome (browser), Google Apps (cloud), and Android (mobile) that will change everything.>>

And this is the same Google that insisted very strenuously in the past that it was not developing an office suite, not developing an operating system, not developing a browser, not developing a phone, etc...

I wonder what other interesting things they are currently "not developing"?

Do you have any "We are not developing..." quote?

They may offer tools to
- host your medical records
- connect with your family and doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies
- let experts from anywhere in the world deliver paid medical services

But they WON'T run genetic and medical diagnosis despite
- having acquired 23andme and the likes
- knowing most of your conditions, allergies, etc.
- encouraging you to add remote testing capabilities to your Android

That would be too disrupting, today.

They may offer tools to
- optimize your energy consumption via their smart metering solution
- sell the energy produced by your solar panels via their Adsense-like platform
- buy energy from other houses via their Adwords-like platform

But they WON'T produce energy, despite
- knowing the needs and surpluses of everyone
- having their grid connected to every house
- hiring the smartest engineers in solar, geothermal, wind and wave power
- acquiring the most disrupting companies in the energy industry
- developing the most efficient technologies in-house
- owning premises everywhere in the world, especially at sea
- the new grid looking very similar to the cloud (houses = computers, power-plants = data-centers)

Too disruptive, for now.

They may offer tools to
- help you navigate by feet, car, plane and public transportation
- track your location and share it with friends and family
- operate any mobile devices and car system
- connect all your machines and gadgets together
- recognize every place, object and people around you

But they WON'T fly their fleet of drones :) despite
- encouraging developers to improve autonomy and miniaturization instead of speed
- paying users to replicate their house on SketchUp
- having modeled the world streets in 3D
- operating the best satellites 24/7

Too scary, before 2050.

The last one may be the least probable, I'm sure we can predict Google's next biggest move but by listing and sorting industries that produce untapped data or underuse technologies. Plus some science-fiction.

These quotes are all over the web from the past 5-10 years, but it would take some time to assemble and verify the original sources. I might be able to put something together over the Christmas/New Year holidays.

Roger, this sounds like a blog post in the making, if you feel like it :)
