Software bundle Google Pack (http://pack.google.com/intl/en/pack_installer.html) lets you check a box for "Google Apps ... Gmail, Calendar, Docs" categorized below the Chrome option. What's the purpose of this?

At SuperUser, someone suggests that it "creates app shortcuts for docs and calendar". http://superuser.com/questions/89490/is-there-actually-any-need-to-install-google-app-for-docs-and-calendar

As far as I know that's all what it does, just placing shortcuts on the desktop, start menu etc. It's the same as the Google Apps setup.

That are shortlinks for Gmail, Calendar and Google Docs, currently they need Google Chrome. Added in Feb 2009
