I don't see the clash. ’There is more to life than increasing its speed’ surely includes increasing the speed as part of life, maybe even an important part of it. It is just that only increasing the speed isn't enough (e.g. if you don't use the new free time smartly).

It's the same as with money and happiness. There is more to happiness than having money, but having money is surely a part of it. :-)
