Are you sure about xenu.net?
google.com/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q="what+is+scientology"+site:xenu.net
returns plenty of results. |
Philipp Holocaust denial, or "negationism", is also illegal in many countries including France. http://www.chillingeffects.org/international/notice.cgi?NoticeID=5998 More examples here: http://www.chillingeffects.org/international/ |
So how do I use google.com from Germany? it auto-redirects me to google.de, even on the start page. |
Ben go to http://www.google.com/ncr (then hhttp://www.google.com/intl/de/ if you want it in your language) |
Another issue is that you cannot completely turn off SafeSearch for the German image search. For example, even with SafeSearch off there are no results at all for ``site:encyclopediadramatica.com''. |
Thank you Philipp, nice research you've done here.
I think that might prove that Google's move on China is a political one more than anything else.
Let's see what they gained:
1) The compassion of people in general. Google isn't evil, Google is a good guy kind of thing.
2) The increase use of alternative browsers such as Firefox or Chrome (the security breach was supposedly through the use of IE. Emails were sent to departments of major universities, companies or governments to now use Firefox! Internet Explorer is now considered unsafe LOL).
3) Aligning itself with the world policy of the US government which will be beneficial in the long run. Expect more of this later on. |
The message for Google China also appears for many other searches, such as [六四事件] ("six four incident", which refers to the Tiananmen massacre on June 4, 1989). |
Google censors many results. I often come across results with a clean up notice.
The last one i have seen was apparently right here: http://board.protecus.de/t37725.htm#331983 |
Someone should make a wiki where people can post censored results.. |

Great idea! How about an entire website dedicated to censored search results. It'd be fascinating to read what is being censored in each country.
People would be able to add censored sites with a censored category it belongs to. A snippet description of the site would also be added by the user. People would then be able to comment and evaluate on each of these submissions. They would be able to browse through the site by refining down by categories or countries and ordering by number of comments, votes ...
The logo might be a little head with a mouth wide open ready to shout but quite inelegantly crossed over by two metal bars.
The tagline might be: "I may not agree with what you say but I'll defend your right to say it."
I thought about about censormenot.com for the domain name but it's already taken. Any ideas? |
> Are you sure about xenu.net?
Not all of Xenu.net is censored in Google, just some portions... |
