<<Mike Arrington brings us news that Facebook is working on a full-fledged email product, with the aim of eventually killing Gmail, Yahoo Mail, AOL Mail and other web-based email systems.
This is brilliant.
Why?
Because Facebook is ideally positioned to build a gigantic web-based mail and messaging system. It is much better positioned, in fact, than Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, and any other competitor.>>

The other week I was wishing that the Facebook Inbox was more like Gmail. I wanted to archive the messages or at least sort them. So hopefully this will improve.
I could easily see Hotmail users switching to their Facebook email accounts, but to be a Gmail killer they're going to have to pull one hell of a great email client out of the bag.
One problem: Facebook currently requires an email address to sign up for an account :P |
I don't think it will be a big threat to GMail, while it might be a big threat for Yahoo Mail, Hotmail and AOL Mail. |
Mrrix32 I think we will use the usernames which is used in the profile URL (facebook.com/username) instead of emails. |
