<<Google is hosting a press conference at its Mountain View, CA headquarters later today. The announcement is widely expected to be Gmail-related. More specifically, that it's getting social features the likes of Twitter and Facebook's status updates. Considering Google's quiet killing of Jaiku, a Twitter-like service it bought in 2007, it should be interesting to see what the company envisions as the ideal social sharing tool. >>

It seems like there's also a new Google search box for mobile on google.com...

hmmm the Like button doesn't link to the Reader like button.

eg. I like something on Buzz, it is not marked as liked on Reader

Also I can't seem to comment on reader items. I keep getting :
"Oops, there was an error posting your comment. Please try again in a few seconds."

Well Google's real time search isn't helping with Twitter on Buzz. I tweeted something 40 min ago and it has only just appeared (Had been in Real Time search before). Around that time I uploaded some screen shots to Flickr, no sign of them yet.

I uploaded the same pictures to Picasa web albums and they appeared within 2 min. However I clicked "Edit" next to the title, Added a title next to the URL and when I clicked save the pictures where replaced with other photos from the album >:(

How about events in Google Calendar?

I don't have it yet, but it reminds me of friendfeed.
By the way, the logo is ugly.

It's interesting because all the social information google pulls (see dashboard) now is used to feed us back.
We'll see what it brings..

Google also sayed that integration with Google Wave will follow, a Enterprise version will be launched for Google Apps customers and it will be possible to post messages with another client like Tweetdeck for Twitter.

Thanks google, copying Twitter is a great way to earn $$$ and sell information to NSA.

Tip/idea: by using multiple inboxes (labs) you could split mails from buzz items! (I'll try to do it when it appears in my account)

It's easy just create a filter for [Has the words: is:buzz] and inbox for [is:buzz is:unread]

This will just give replies to your posts and replies to posts you've commented on. It is not the same as going to Buzz

I'm glad to see Google finally understanding that it could leverage it's Gmail user base. With user profiles available in search, this is the way they intend to battle Facebook. Of course no Facebook connect in Buzz, only a weak competitor is available: Twitter.

Facebook really is an advanced email client with user profiles and status updates (see for example the new Facebook design). So it made sense to include most of what Facebook is into Gmail.

But Facebook also is a very large social network where you can now find old friends. With user profiles available in search, old friends are found on Google.

One last very important feature of Facebook is pictures sharing and so far Google has done a mediocre job with Picassa. But if Google gets this piece of the puzzle right, I'd see some very serious competition for Facebook.

If Facebook succeeds in building a "full featured webmail product" things could get very interesting...

<< Facebook is completely rewriting their messaging product and is preparing to launch a fully featured webmail product in its place, according to a source with knowledge of the product. Internally it’s known as Project Titan. Or, unofficially and perhaps over-enthusiastically, the Gmail killer. >>

Twitter: Weak competitor? WTF? It's HUGE!

Also what makes you feel PWA is worse than Facebook albums? They seem to have more or less the same features, but PWA has face recognition and a desktop client (which can edit photos, which rarely happens with Facebook pictures)

I you want to filter buzzes in gmail ? create a filter with "*[put at-character here]gmail.com) AND is:buzz" without quotes in the "TO" field then "skip inbox" in next screen. Inbox is clean now!

Not here yet with my GMail account (Seattle) in IE7 or Firefox . None of the suggested URLs help either.

Are others having success using Chrome or another browser?

Note: this is a terrible way for Google to treat early adopters. And the "Help" material is no help either.

[put at-character here]Mrrix32: Sorry I was a little rough on the edges. Yes twitter is huge but much much smaller than Facebook. And of course Picasa is a great product but do people socialize on PWA as much as they do on Facebook photos?

At just before 11 a.m. PDT, I got a "Buzz" splash screen when logging into GMail and the feature is up now.

If you want to turn Google Buzz off, there is a "turn off buzz" down at the bottom of each Gmail page, next to "turn off chat". It makes the Buzz label and the icon disappear from the Gmail sidebar.

(I like the idea of Google Buzz, but I'm not ready for a public profile. I hope that Google decides to allow Buzz to be used without a public profile or without disclosing location information.)

I think I found a bug.

Regardless of if you push "Sweet! Check out Buzz" or "Nah, go to my inbox", in the splash screen of the gmail, Google still activates the Buzz! The only way to disable it is from the footer:(

That's not a bug. When you see that page, it simply means that Buzz has been added to your Gmail account. If you click the "Sweet" button, it takes you straight into the "Buzz" tab.... and if you click the "Nah" button it brings you to the "Inbox" tab (according to the source code).

Neither of those buttons actually enable or disable Buzz.

If you want to disable Buzz in your Gmail account, you need to click the "turn off buzz" link at the bottom of your Gmail.

If you're logged into Gmail and you copy & paste this link into Chrome or Firefox, you can view the source code for that page.

Thanks. I didn't think they're going to automatically add it on.
