Another service for viewing pdf, postscript, and word documents is view.samurajdata.se. http://view.samurajdata.se/

It does not require an account or login. It displays the document one page at a time as gif images. Most browsers support this directly with minimal resources. Usually it is quick and uses vastly less user bandwidth.

Their FAQ says:
"Q: What makes these features possible? A: In one word: Open Source (oops! that was two words...). In several words: Ghostscript, php, wvWare, Apache, ImageMagick, gnu wget, gnu zip, Linux and so on."

The source for their server is available via GPL.

The website: http://www.pdfmenot.com now redirects to: https://docs.google.com/viewer

The Firefox Add-on is no longer available: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6592

BUT the Add-on Review page is still live: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/reviews/display/6592

I would guess the acquisition is real – Unless the creators at Stateless Systems just decided to give up on this product and redirect their users to Google's product instead...

PdfMeNot is no longer listed on StatelessSystems.com, but the screen shot is still on their server:

btw, the blogger Amit Agrawal has updated his post (http://www.labnol.org/internet/pdfmenot-pdf-viewer-redirects-to-google-docs/12957/).

It is just redirection. :)

Thanks ArpitNext! Here's the updated text:

<< Update: The story earlier mentioned that Google has acquired PDFMeNot which is incorrect based on the whois records and hosting details of the doamin. The Australian company is simply redirecting their service to Google Docs since it offers similar functionality. >>

So apparently the creators of PdfMeNot just conceded to Google...
