I think there are still many services today similar to that one, which will be eventually replaced by automation sometime in the future. Which ones do you think those are?

Back in 1967 pocket calculators hadn't been invented, and hardly anyone had access to a calculating machine except for bankers and accounts staff. Only a minority of people owned and could operate a slide rule.

So if you needed to carry out this kind of calculation, the only alternative for most people was to do it by hand, and even back then most adults weren't fluent at long division.

I'd be interested to see one of the questionnaires and the result the computer gave.
