I recently came accross the BBC's standards and guidelines for bbc.co.uk. Its quite an interesting read.

"Of particular interest is the supported browsers page, which, looking at the change history, shows they started to support FireFox in December 2004, and still have to test their pages in Netscape 4.7!!"

Something else that gets talked about a fair bit is their template system Barley. All in all it makes for an interesting read. More here http://cgriley.com/2006/01/bbc-standards-and-guidelines.aspx
