I also put together a Ubuntu 10.04 Post-Install Guide: What to do and try after installing Lucid Lynx

After getting such a great reaction last year, i knew i had to make another one this year. There was lots of feedback and i've put a lot of effort into this updated post. Please let me know what you think and help me spread the word if you can.

I hope you'll find this useful and that new users can learn from the instructions and explanations i provided!

Facebook and Twitter built in :O WIN!

I kind of like the new theme, but I'm annoyed that you can't have the menu bars semi-transparent on that theme.

Oh and now everything has the close button etc. on the left.... except Google Chrome's main window!

Free ? When a very small group of people decides for me that it's better to put the topbar buttons on the left and I've no easy [for average user] way to change it, it looks like a tyrany...

But I've updated Ubuntu tonight, and except that my computer is slower than before and that it seems I've new font by default for Firefox, I've seen nothing new.

DPic, I'm running Fedora rather than Ubuntu, but I was pleased to discover the "Back In Time" backup application as a result of your post-install guide. Thanks!

Well, i'm on yourside there, but i actually hold no loyalty to Ubuntu. It's simply bring the most new users to free software (aka open source) at the moment.

Really? It is so much faster for me (and others are saying they're quite satisfied with how much faster it is) and, aside from the topbar buttons, i like the new default theme.

Yeah I'm finding 10.04 a lot faster than 9.10 was, although I had to do a clean install after GRUB got messed up in the upgrade process wich may have had a hand in that (I did try to reinstall GRUB from a liveUSB but no luck)

_Move buttons back_ (for reference. I know the average user won't know how to do this)
<Alt> + F2
gconf-editor
Apps -> Metacity -> General – > Button Layout
menu:minimize,maximize,close

So, i've heard a couple of people say that Lucid is a disaster, but most people say that they've never been happier with Ubuntu. What i gather from this is that there are some major issues that seem to be affecting a small amount of people, the rest are very happy. The decision on the menu bars has also hurt a lot, and some people don't like the direction ubuntu seems to be going in with Ubuntu One.
