Tasks Gadget

When the latest Gmail update was launched, one of my mates was annoyed by the tasks popup menu and told me (on Wave :D) he would rather have it as a main page in Gmail, like the Mail or Contacts links.

So I've quickly hacked together a gadget that displays the Canvas View for tasks in Gmail.

Clicking the plus icon on the gadget will display the popup view but in the gadget bar, clicking the name of the gadget will load the Canvas View in the main frame of the page. If you are using the "Bold Blue", "Classic", "Contrast Black" or "Terminal" themes, the "Tasks" link will be underlined, this is just the way the themes work.

You can hide the original Tasks link either by minimising the menu or by Greasemonkey Script: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/75100

Nice!

An alternative is to enable the "Add Gadget by Url" labs option and then add the iGoogle tasks gadget using its url: http://www.google.com/ig/modules/tasks.xml

This will then allow it to remain on screen below the labels rather than as a transient pop-out.
