By accident I fell into the streaming experiment from Google. Looking at the homepage the search box is huge and the logo is too. When typing a search query it takes me directly to the results without having to click on search or hit enter.
Next to the search box you see a option 'Turn off streaming' Maybe related to the doodle and to the search event tomorrow.

WebSonic.nl Does the suggestion dropdown menu hides the first result(s)? |
As you can see in the screenshot, it doesn't. |
TOMHTML No it doesn't. Strangly when you click the "X" you get a blank result page. |
Is the experiment can be triggered via cookie? because i really want to try and see how it works. :) |
And how do you see the Adwords ads? |
Same thing. Realtime refreshed with the results. |
If you go to the next page, you loose the experiment. Basically Google has saved the most frequent searches and their results for page number one. If you type a letter, it shows you the top results for the most frequent word with that letter ... There is no strain on Google servers. That's the trick. |
Alex K have a good point. Either way it's amazingly fast and finally centered! |
It's called Google Instant!
More info will be later here: http://www.google.com/instant/ |
<< As you can imagine, searching even before someone types isn’t easy—which is why we are so excited today to be unveiling Google Instant. Google Instant is search-before-you-type. Instant takes what you have typed already, predicts the most likely completion and streams results in real-time for those predictions—yielding a smarter and faster search that is interactive, predictive and powerful. >>

But why a bigger logo on the homepage? |
maybe because of the bigger search box |
or maybe because of larger monitors |
it is even bigger on small screens (1024 pixel, netbook) |
