There is a report on Steven Levy's book, "In the Plex". The coverage by Richard Hartley-Parkinson is at Mail Online. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1375121/In-The-Plex-New-book-Google-released-fall-China-Steve-Jobs.html
It says that at one time Sergey Brin and Larry Page wanted Steve Jobs as CEO.
It also says that when Eric Schmidt was a member of Apple's board of directors, the iPad was kept secret from him.
"Mr Schmidt had wanted to stay in the country [China] but he was outvoted and it is believed that the decision had 'long-lasting implications for Schmidt's relationship with the founders'."
There is another report by Wilfried F. Voss at FrogenYozurt. http://www.frogenyozurt.com/2011/04/in-the-plex-how-google-thinks-works-and-shapes-our-lives-by-steven-levy/
