Google Changed Another Help Entry  (View post)

I note that the original changed help entry has now changed to include the phrase "For some older removals (before March 2005), we may not show a notice at this time.".

Does this not imply that not only are they doing it now, but they have been doing so for at least a year; ie: before March 2005?

Philipp, is it possible to obtain certain changed pages (discliamers) of Google and other players from a cache ??

Whoknows, Google does not always show when they censor search results. So what I get from the help file is that this is some kind of bug (feature?) that was resolved for all censored results added after March 2005. However, those censored results added before that time are still to this day not showing the disclaimer (in Germany, at least).

Pd, in this case I was lucky to have made a screenshot [1] – I had the feeling they were going to change some more of their help entries. The Google cache already shows the new version, and the Wayback Machine at archive.org does not seem to include an archived version of this page.

yeah Philipp, thats what I also am seeing, the cached files shows the new ones only.. So one has to be smart enough to take screen shoots ahead of time...and keep that in some sort of database ....!!

... or create a GoogleOldHelppagesBot for searching them.

For help page updates, they should do what they do with Privacy policy updates, which is to show the additions and deletions and retain the old versions, as mentioned here: http://google.blognewschannel.com/index.php/archives/2006/02/07/google-brilliantly-updates-privacy-policy/

You are right Michel
Geman, French, Italian and others (except English ones) still show the old entry.

This site wonders if Google is censoring Mohammed's cartoons in USA: http://rightindian.wordpress.com/2006/02/09/google-censors-in-usa/

Libran, I do get some of the cartoons in the top 20 in the Google search shown in the article...

You have to give this to Google, they do change their publicly stated policies when they change their internal policies. I'm not sure if this is an example of them trying to not be evil, or just good PR (changing it before someone makes a stink about it). Of course, the irony is that someone will still make a stink out of it either way – hence the blog post I'm commenting on.
