Is the "Delete Forever" in the Trash of Gmail a new function? if yes, when did it come out?

Actually, I believe there was a time when you were forced to move it to the trash first, and only then be able to delete it forever (in the trash tab). But I don't know for sure.

If they are going to be deleting messages they better show how many messages are in the spam folder....a lot of my legitimate email goes in there.
I finally received two spam messages, but I think they were just from a spammer trying a lot of combinations of first and last names.

Rakhi, maybe with Google Desktop's search (and then opening the cached version)? But in general, I'd say no...
