yesterday I got a message with the Subject "Hi" – it was from a dear friend. Later, I also got about 3 spams mails which crept thru with the same title "hi".

Now all 3 spams were threaded to the original "hi" message and I can't delete any of the 3 threaded mails from the orginal. So I Lost the orginals message. This sucks

Am I thinking wrong or has it a design flaw in Google threading and delete function ??

under "more options" you have "| Delete this message |" for each message in your thread. The delete button (logically) deletes the whole thread.
