National People's Congress of China opens a blog..

http://blog.people.com.cn/blog/main.jspe

only eight of more than 5,000 delegates to the NPC and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference have been approved to post comments online.

this is a good move by the NPC --baby steps first!!

Nice pictures.

Some quotes:
"The abundant guest increases the original article"
"the common people live in contentment the source on entire housing..."

From http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/trurl_pagecontent?lp=zt_en&url=http%3A%2F%2Fblog.people.com.cn%2Fblog%2Fmain.jspe

Who can tell us what they really say? I bet it's funny (or sad, if you think more)...

Translation:

The Communist Party is TERRIFIED!

The regime trusts ONLY 8 out of 5,000 top, top Party leaders to reliably spout the Party line! That's priceless!

The internal crumbling of the CCP is accelerating FAST!

Think about it...if just ONE of these 4,992 "untrustworthy" delegates blogged even a mild criticism of the Party or it's actions--or even slightly questioned some sacred Communist dogma; the news that a high and mighty Party leader criticized something would spread within hours to every corner of China. THAT'S what the butchers in Beijing are terrified of.

We'll probably see others added to the "trusted" list as damage control--but only after they are further investigated, and (standard Communist practice) threatened or blackmailed to obedienty kiss the boots of power.

Don't be fooled that this is a start of free speech--it's a weak propaganda attempt:

They hoped to get happy headlines that the CP delegates can now freely blog. Instead the headlines read "8 out of 5,000". The reality of just 8 out of 5,000 shows that it's a phony showpiece, as only 0.0016% are actually trusted to blog. Something Nazi Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels would have tried.

Most sunshine greetings from a People's Deputy Delegate from noble P.R. China. Gracious thanking for your honorable reporting on our blogging gift.

I am hopeful of joining the very list of Blogging Deputies soonest after being awarded trust. Central Committee staff are in now fact preparing our own texts and opinions. I can not wait to see what I will be saying on my own very blog page! It will be of wishful excitement as daily my face and speakings are placed in front of the people for me.

Glorious and best wishing to read the text of preparation soonest. I am remaining of no name due to waiting approval by political officers, please to accept dear apologies.

While the phony Peoples Delegate blogs go up--all 8 of them(!), the relentless hand of tyranny tries to stamp out one of the most popular blogs in all of China.

Anyone able to launch a project to start mirroring important Chinese blogs to keep their voices from being silenced on the whim of a dictator?

More info on the blog

Googling (not cn) for the blog finds this possible site. Is this indeed the blog, a mirror, or something else? (I can't read chinese) If so, it may be back, though perhaps missing whatever offended the dictators.
