Try searching "microsoft" then notice the extra sublinks below the general google result.... such as: Microsoft Update – More Popular Downloads – Office Update – Office
anyone know how they get there in the first place or any info on how a top rank site can get extra sublinks on google results? |
I am not sure how they got there. When I first saw it I thought that it might be to do with Google Sitemaps but probably not. |

Those have been around for a long time. They are algorithmically generated (just like everything else), so you have to get lucky to have some appear for your site. |
yeah, getting them appearing is one thing – but some sites seem quite lucky in getting the best 4, while some get the most obscure and useless 4. i used to think they were based on anchor text, but ive seen some listings that dont even get linked to via the homepage! would be nice to see some logical reasoning for the choice. google has a system for each other element of its algo, so why not this one. |
