Could someone explain me the purpose of the Checksum Algorithm ? what can I do with it as a webmaster?

Cheers!

If you want to grab the Google PageRank dynamically, from your server (without the user looking at his Google Toolbar), you need to perform a certain calculation against the specific URL. Only if the result matches with what Google's algorithm results in will you get the PageRank value. If it doesn't match you will get an error. In other words the checksum algorithm is intended for webmasters who want to provide a service which somehow includes the display of the Google PageRank for any site.

So far i agree, but this can change anytime. Nobody knows the exact Google algo. Please take note, there are much more things involved in Google in order to get good PR.
