i have one more suggestion ... maybe when you can't find it it's really not on the web .. so you can set up google web search alert so you get alerted once it appears somewhere

Good idea. Which also reminds me of another method: when it's not on the web, you can check a library. Speaking for myself it was quite a while that I've been to the library actively seeking something. Usually these days I just go there to freely browse around.
