Next time replace pl=on with pl=off in the url, like this one: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3978917686682038046&pl=off |
pl=false also seems to work (since Philip's link had true in it, I tried false) |
Following http://blogoscoped.com/forum/25019.html ...
Problem #4 : If you watch a video and turn "continuous video" at OFF, you can immediatly watch an other video and the variable is always at OFF. But if you close your browser and re-open it, your preferences are erased.
Problem #5 : you are watching a video, and "continuous video" is at OFF. If someone, who just see a funny video and want to share is discover, sends you a link to this video, and if this link contain "pl=on", Google doesn't care about you : Google want you see not only your friend's video but all videos "related" (rarely really related).
Problem #6 : Related ? Related ?? You could think other videos "related" are the same that you found in the SERP. For example, you search [cars], the result page is the same that the related videos list. But just an example : http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=gerlitzky Here, you have only ONE result. And you have other videos in the "playlist", came from.... from what ? I don't know. If you find a video where there is just this video in the playlist, please post the link here, I want to see if there is a "loop effect" ;-) |
No, changing pl=true to pl=false does not work. It just pauses and then plays the next one in line. |
They now have an "OFF" link that you need to click to really turn off continuous playing. It's right above the other "related" videos entries. |
Posted an update... Nathan found something else that can go wrong with this feature: http://google.blognewschannel.com/index.php/archives/2006/03/29/google-video-rabbis-and-lesbians-back-to-back/ |
It also makes it hard to send video links to people, since after you have watched a video you like the URL instantly changes. This will surely confuse a lot of people. I now have to pause the videos 5 sec before they really end. It feels like a mousetrap. |
Thanks Ulf, you found the problem number 7! And Nathan (Inside Google) found many others... |
Looks like Google is getting greedy for longer attention spans... or they just want to turn Google Video into something more TV-like. After all, when your friend calls you to tell you a good show is running, the show won't stop after it finished :) |
Correct! (copyright the Weakest link) But when you call a friend, in that case, you want he watch the scene in process, not all the TV Guide! Google Video, you are the weakest link, goodbye! |
Oui, mais...
The TV doesn't turn off after the show ends. |
Exact, but Google has noticed no-one for this change : you expected to got a video, and surprise (!) you are in front of a TV. I can see here and all over the map that this surprise doesn't please to all Google users...
bad google! ^^ |
