Apparently Google bought an advanced text search algorithm developed by Ori Alon, a Israeli student; he now works at Google.
It seems Microsoft and Yahoo were also trying to get a hold of this, so it must be some big deal. |
Found the following article on the search technology – http://www.webpronews.com/insidesearch/insidesearch/wpn-56-20050907OrionPointsArrowTowardFutureofSearch.html |
Another article with more details – http://www.physorg.com/news6255.html Ok, i'll stop posting on this now, the first news article misspelled the guys name. The correct spelling is Ori Allon. Because of the misspelling, I was finding it difficult to find more info. |
Sounds like it uses something like google sets to increase value of search results.... interesting! |
Hmm.. this news is from Sept. 2005 and is now big news? |
the news is that the guy was hired by Google. and that happened very recently |
Good Luck Ori alon.
Great that Google got hold on you and no one else. |
This is a post of Franck Poisson, from Exalead (future big search engine...), about this algorithm : http://franckpoisson.blogs.com/blogapart/2006/04/la_dernire_acqu.html
I tried to translate :
"The last aquisition of Google is... a student (...describtion of algorithm...) [On exalead], we have got the same since 6 years... it's called REFINE on Exalead..."

I'm not sure why everyone is all fired up over Orion, this technology already exists in ConceptQ Pro. |
Anyone know anything about Ori Allon, the Googler??? |
Interesting, but navigation system is a little bit confusing
