The release of Google Calendar as completely advertless, and people suggesting that it was to increase Google's "stickyness" got me thinking about where Google makes its money. It seems to me it has an extraordinary number of outlets where it does not DIRECTLY make any money.
Google makes money via: -- Google Web Search -- Google Adsense/Adwords -- Google Earth (Pro) -- Google Search Appliance -- Google Groups -- Froogle -- Google Local/Maps -- Gmail -- Google Video
Google doesn't make money via: -- Google Image Search -- Google Talk -- Google News -- Google Blog Search -- Google Calendar -- Google Scholar -- Google Alerts -- Google Finance -- Google Base -- Google SMS -- Google Pages -- Google Reader -- Picasa -- Hello -- Blogger -- Dodgeball -- Writely
I know that a lot of these make money for Google indirectly via the web search. But I still think that the list of places that Google isn't making money directly is quite long!
Are there any I've missed? |
I didn't realize there were that many ad-free services. |
