This is great! Thanks for making such a cool toy...I am going to use a pic later in a post about gaxed. What about adding in some famous scenes?

Noname, yes the thing is that I had to create every letter... so I restricted this to an ASCII alphabet...

I would like the text to remain in the textbox after I have submitted it. That way I can easily try my phrase out on the other pictures too.

FF 1.5.0.3 it doesn't.

Otherwise – nice tool!

Can you keep the value of the drop down box persistent across different screens. So if I click "Blue Screen" for example the combo box starts off as "Blue Screen".

Part of the heavy caching (and the URL rewriting) was that I don't poll the database so at the time you see the image, the script doesn't even know what value you chose in the box/ what value you typed. I know it's a bit of a bugger and I might find a way to change this. (I could use cookies for starters, but wasn't sure it's good that you as image creator would then not be able to judge what the page looks like for others...)

Well,
If it changes anything.... I vote persistence :)

Instead of doing this application on the server using GD, could it be done on the client by downloading a webpage with custom-generated javascript, plus the static image and static images for the letters A-Z.

The composite image could then be assembled at the browser end.

Hmm. Maybe I should have patented this!

i had one technical question:
how did you create a random set of numbers and letters (without having repeated sets) as you did on the premenet link part. i've been looking for one but none have satisfied what i needed.
i'd apreciate it.

This is great! Any way to enter multi-line text (e.g. onto the protest banner)?

hmm, well it seems to be fine now. I tried it earlier at work in FF 1.5/Win2k and the text box felt like the entire page reloaded everytime i typed a letter. There was in general just a whole lot of page flicker.
But at home now in FF1.5/OSX, it works fine and fast!

That might have been something with your browser, or something with the Google AdSense on the page – otherwise Gaxed.com doesn't include any JavaScript or anything that could be triggered while typing. The only special thing I'm doing otherwise is having some opacity on the input box, but I don't think that could be the reason... but of course, everything's possible.

Yes, that could be done, but the big downside is that you can't right-click the image to save... you'd need to make a screenshot. That was the reason I didn't do this.

I was amazed at the traffic, but my server didn't went down, tho it was heavily stressed... 373,000 page impressions to Gaxed from Monday – Wednesday, and around 100,000 image messages created from Monday – now.

This server might be slow lately due to Gaxed.com, unfortunately.
