grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..dig has been down for quite some time , I could not get in -2hrs ago..

I'm seeing this also from Colorado, USA ... maybe the DIGG effect did DIGG in! ;-)

Keep in mind that a machine/web farm may disable ICMP traffic ... so ping is not a definite test if a machine is up or not ... although traceroute should show you most of the hops as this is usually enabled on network gear.

BTW, a very low-level test is simply doing a "telnet HOSTNAME 80" and see if anything answers there.

yeah they are back..

I did my best to identify the failure point as commented earlier above :)-

...and Kevin kindly notes "Digg is down due to metropolitan network issues that took down several of digg's upstream network providers this morning"
