6 – 3? You must be kidding! A 9 goal-thriller.
I am going for 2 – 1 Germany. |
Bruno | 18 years ago # |
It's football, not soccer!
:P |
B. | 18 years ago # |
4 – 1 Germany, give or take a goal :-) |
Philipp Lenssen | 18 years ago # |
> It's football, not soccer!
Yeah, I never know how to translate it. It's certainly Fussball in German! |
Elias KAI | 18 years ago # |
7-2 Germany |
dpneal | 18 years ago # |
3-1 Germany i reckon. Can't wait for the match tomorrow! :) Come on England!! |
Sam Davyson | 18 years ago # |
To save any comfusion in the translation you should leave it as "Fussball". Everyone understands that to mean football or soccer depending on where they live, |
Tony Ruscoe | 18 years ago # |
Everyone should just call it football! :-) |
Sam Davyson | 18 years ago # |
Dan: some England Fever.

I'll say 2-1 Costa Rica, just to oppose everyone else :P |
Alberto | 18 years ago # |
I would like to see the Google World Cup Logo for Croatia.
And yeah, it isFootball. Calling it soccer is similar to calling American Football Rugby. |
Tony Ruscoe | 18 years ago # |

- Angola - Iran - Paraguay - Saudi Arabia - Serbia and Montenegro - Togo - Trinidad and Tobago - Tunisia |
Tony Ruscoe | 18 years ago # |
Actually, if anyone cares, I think this is the USA one:
http://www.google.com/logos/worldcup06_us.gif
(It seems the one listed under United States above is just a generic one used for everywhere else...) |
Brinke Guthrie | 18 years ago # |
no logo on personalized page yet. |
Dint | 18 years ago # |
Too bad the colors don't match the actual shirt/short/sock-colors tho. |
Philipp Lenssen | 18 years ago # |
But in the US, foosball is what we call kicker in German (!) – soccer (err, football) on the table! Maybe I just try to avoid the term in the future... I can just say World Cup (but not WC, as WC means toilet in German). :) |
José Mira | 18 years ago # |
Actually, WC means Water Closet :-P |
Philipp Lenssen | 18 years ago # |
(Yep, I know, but is WC used in the US? I did a quick test in the Leo dictionary and WC wasn't found in English.) |
Splasho | 18 years ago # |
WC is certainly used in Britain and I think in the US too. |
Ionut Alex. Chitu | 18 years ago # |
Here's a nice tool to predict who wins the WC: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/shared/spl/hi/predictor/html/football/world_cup_06/default.stm |

If it's anything, shouldn't it be "futbol"? Confused. Go Germany! I have my team jacket on! |
dpneal | 18 years ago # |
Excellent! Thanks Sam. :) Would love to be there! Prediction for tomorrow's game? |
/pd | 18 years ago # |

|
iZeitgeist | 18 years ago # |
woow, 4-2 I guess Philipp must be partying now... |
Sam Davyson | 18 years ago # |
I am still claiming my prediction was correct. It was at least for about 30 mins...
Tomorrow: 3 – 0 England. |
/pd | 18 years ago # |
Sam: those type of predications dont make me any $$$.. I just played the "pool" and won by weekend beer money!! :)_
thanks to the Germans and thanks to Philipp.. three cheers to philipp and the germans ...LOL!! |
Scott | 18 years ago # |
Meanwhile, at half-time, Ecuador 1, Poland 0! I haven't checked the odds, but presume that would be a significant upset if it stands .... |
kid disco | 18 years ago # |
Why can't you just call it soccer? I understand that it is a U.S. term... but it is also the least confusing, right? |
Philipp Lenssen | 18 years ago # |
4:2. Nice. The whole city was partying :) |
Brinke Guthrie | 18 years ago # |
BTW, the NFL season starts in July. www.nfl.com
|
Ionut Alex. Chitu | 18 years ago # |
we want pictures of pure joy |
Sam Davyson | 18 years ago # |
2 – 0 Ecuador.
I am impressed by this Google Module. It has scorers, yellow cards etc. It is not very good at updating though. |
Sam Davyson | 18 years ago # |
>> Why can't you just call it soccer? I understand that it is a U.S. term... but it is also the least confusing, right?
It is just that soccer is not what we call it. It is like me asking you to stop abusing the word "football" and start calling your game rugby with helmets. |
/pd | 18 years ago # |
Sam: I noticed the same thing too.. the score /time will update under the 'live' tab.. but if you switch to the matches tab the scores are not updated..
Right now, my Live tab (another machine @ home) is still displying the GER vs CRC match which ended ..hmmmmmmmm like 3 hrs ago ??
|
Christopher Rose | 18 years ago # |
Only the most tragic of lame nerds EVER use the word soccer... |
Sam Davyson | 18 years ago # |
Are images now autoconverted?! Lets check:
http://www.google.com/intl/en/images/about_logo.gif |
Sam Davyson | 18 years ago # |
Wahey! That is really super Philipp! |
Ionut Alex. Chitu | 18 years ago # |
It is, but they are too big.
I have a question: how can you find out in Javascript the size of an image if it doesn't have wight and height attributes set?
|
Ionut Alex. Chitu | 18 years ago # |
width, sorry |
Philipp Lenssen | 18 years ago # |
I believe I need to do a server-side check via PHP (which would slow down stuff, even though I could cache the values, of course). But if something is possible in a JavaScript/ CSS combination, that would be interesting to know. The 450 pixels width is intended for images larger than that, not really for the images smaller than that :) |
Philipp Lenssen | 18 years ago # |
Thanks Ionut for the code, it works now! |
José Mira | 18 years ago # |
The missing logos are now online too... You can see them all over here: http://members.lycos.co.uk/zmira/doodleoftheday/index.php?year=2006&month=06&day=09 |
Tony Ruscoe | 18 years ago # |
Philipp: The image thing is neat. You could always use the "clip" CSS attribute to clip the image horizontally so that it doesn't increase the width of the forum...
BTW, I'm currently getting a JS "Syntax error" in IE when I view threads containing images. |
Philipp Lenssen | 18 years ago # |
Thanks Tony, fixed. |
