Blogoscoped ad obstructing contentNiraj Sanghvi | Saturday, June 10, 2006 18 years ago • 3,079 views |
Philipp, some interesting subtle changes going on around here :)
However, one unpleasant one: the ask.com ad in the left navigation bar is overlapping content in the main body (I see this issue in Firefox).
I took a screenshot: http://www.nirajsanghvi.com/images/misc/blogoscoped_ask_ad.jpg |

Added note: This is not occurring in IE, and the Firefox version I am using is 1.5.0.3 |

Either you were still tweaking it, or my FF was flaking out, because it is fixed now. |

Just got an email back from Philipp. Yes he is playing with the sidebar right now. I saw the same error briefly. |

Yes, thanks Niraj, I was indeed still tweaking, I made a bug in the CSS. It's fixed now. Hope there's no more bugs tonight :)
I'm currently working on optimizing for Opera. |

Are you using Opera now yourself? or just thinking about browser minorities? |
Philipp Lenssen | 18 years ago # |
Just thinking about minorities :) I use http://BrowserPool.de to test with different browsers... |

I like how the search bar no longer splits up the links :) |
Philipp Lenssen | 18 years ago # |
Yeah, I think I'll leave it like that even when the ad will be gone! |

I noticed another change too!
The post titles underline when you hover them. Is it new ? |
Philipp Lenssen | 18 years ago # |
Yep, you are correct – headlines are now links, before they weren't. I did that recently after realizing how much I love that feature on other blogs. |

I love these thumbnails:

I like the thumnails tactics :)_

Philipp, the thumbnails don't work when the originating site prevents hotlinking. I am adding outer-court.com to my allowed list to fix it, but just a note that the thumbnails may not always show up, even if the image exists. |

Yes Niraj, that's why I also put the link below the image, I noticed this with your site recently... the source link is also good to credit the image... |
Niraj Sanghvi | 18 years ago # |
A couple of popular stories led to some images from my site getting hotlinked in many places, and resulted in 100s of megabytes getting downloaded...so I put some strict hotlinking rules in place :)
The link is a very good idea. I like the change! |

I miss the "More..." or "My Other Sites..." links.
I realise I can get there via "About". |
Philipp Lenssen | 18 years ago # |
You're right. I brought it back. |
dpneal | 18 years ago # |
Glad you brought the 'more...' link back Philipp, but be careful that the navigation doesn't start to look cluttered or 'too busy'. (Not that I'm an expert or anything) |
dpneal | 18 years ago # |
you just changed it :) |
Philipp Lenssen | 18 years ago # |
I'm not sure which version you're referring to as you saw I just changed a bit back and forth. I'm trying to go for the smallest amount of links possible, which is why I compressed things into "blogroll" and "more" links. As soon as the Ask campaign is finished the ad zone will move back to the right where it also serves the purpose to make the layout fill 1024 pixel screens. |

You could put Google's blog under blogroll? Looks good at the mom though :) I like the ad zone on the left, catches my eye more. Maybe you could put some adsense there when the ask campaign is finished?
By the way, howcome you have an Ask ad campaign? |

I am also no expert. But I would say that "More..." should be last on the list since it has dots. |
