Traditionally, in English the term 'drugs' tends to refer to either prescribed or illegal drugs.
Alchohol (and tabbacco) are generally referred to separately – more for clarity than for accuracy. So yeah, it is redundant but people in US/UK/Aus generally don't think of them in the same context. |
So Google seems to target minors. Anything that an adult would want to buy (po*n, cigarettes, alcohol) is ruled out. |

Oh, so they want it really clean. Kind of like Disney Land. It seems that here is the second major problem with Google Checkout. If they acquire such huge influence as with search and push such a puritan agenda the future of the internet does not look that bright. |
In fairness, by excluding things like drugs and pornography they've effectively eliminated 90% of the inevitable spam based merchants that would appear within seconds of the release :)
Plus, every report on Checkout would talk about Google being a perveyor of filth and drugs – not good press at release time.
That said, hopefully once Checkout becomes established they will relax their guidelines to theoretically provide the service for any company providing anything legal. There's no reason you shouldn't be able to pay your online pharmcist with Google Checkout in the future.
