Some people report that Google updates PR these days.

I can't seem to find any change for the site I've checked.
A great tool to query Google's data centers for PageRank: http://livepr.raketforskning.com/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fblog.outer-court.com |
Digg might deserve a PR8 by now. www.digg.com is still at PR7. Or are they getting into trouble for often not having permalinks and also for slow loading times? |
On a related note, Google Sitemaps must have more up-to-date PageRank info that everything else (including Google Toolbar) because it's telling me that the page on my site with the highest PR for this month is this one:
http://ruscoe.net/blog/2006/06/google-rs2-ssd-and-mobile-download.asp
However, according to Google Toolbar (and a couple of online tools) that page has a PR of zero – and I *know* that many other pages on my site have a higher PR than that!
In the words of our American friends: What gives? |
This PageRank update concerns only "new" pages, which had not yet PageRank.
and it's only on 4 Data Centers, for the moment |
Tony,
In my experience, Sitemaps still needs some work on the PageRank side ... I have actually seen a case where it changed the "page with the highest PageRank" in a PREVIOUS month ... and in actual fact, that page did not exist at that time – go figure!
Having said that, Sitemaps is a cool idea and I hope Google keeps putting resources into it to make it better – great tool for webmaster communication that scales well. And I do think that some of the things it tells you (as per your example) are probably accurate in their internal database, but I've seen enough oddities that I wouldn't bank on it.

TOMHTML sez: "This PageRank update concerns only "new" pages, which had not yet PageRank."
How do you know? I can't find any change for new pages. Do you mean new sites? |
I report only what it was said on some French forum, the testimonies of many users. For the moment, I read only "Yeah! My PageRank change from 0 to..."
But now, it seems that all the PR have taken back all there PR. So pages returns the damned PR 0... |
>> This PageRank update concerns only "new" pages, which had not yet PageRank
That was my guess too.. And one other thing : It was meant to fix the last defectuous PR assignment of 04/04 ..
But since it only lasted about 20 hours, I can't pinpoint anything else. |
Wake up the "google dance" seems to be back >> PR update >> BL update
but for few (new?) pages only... |
You're right. I've got some PR6 pages. |
Sorry for this.. But I posted a new story :) |
