If you search for [google purchase] on Google, you'll have a HARD TIME finding the site of Google PurchaseS. You'll find http://purchase.google.com that redirects to google.com. The rest of the results are about Pyra Labs acqisition, Writely and GBuy rumors.

The general public haven't heard of anything other than "google". To the general public, google is a search engine and nothing else. A slightly grumpy thing to say, but it's true.

Still, I think those that know about this program in one way or another know it by its actual name no?

a better question is how many people know what the code name for checkout and purchases is. (hint: you see it at login in the address bar)

The real "general public" doesn't even know Paypal exists.
