But for Yahoo and MSN you need to go to special URLs to get an uncluttered search homepage. Google and Ask make it their main focus. The only problem with Ask is that they automatically push me onto the German site when I enter Ask.com. I don't like to be pushed around :) |
Some previous discussion here: http://blogoscoped.com/forum/46498.html |
I use Web, Maps, and Images all the time. Books, Scholar, and Froogle, not so much. |
yeah i think no one uses froogle often
The best is Images, videos , google groups etc will be nice

The Google 'more' link shows up in google.nl as well in google.com. At least on my computer. The only difference being that I don't get a small box but it directs me to a whole new page. |
Ask.com's new interface is pretty slick; It's good to see them move their page in this direction. |
Gerard, yes that "more" link is normal, with the behavior your describe. I should clarify that the only thing new is that there's a small box popping up dynamically. |
I'm sure that Google's decision on which links to include / put in the box / put on the "More" page is based on clicks. They've got lots of data to go on. One thing I'd like to know is do more people (read: average users) search and then pick a catagory (images, news, etc) or pick a catagory then search? |
Ah, now I understand. Thanks Philipp. |
Why can't they just let us decide what links we want? That would be easy to implement. They could even have a featured spot where they promote a new product. |
But google sorts it based on country location
when you login into google.com you see: Web Images Groups News Froogle Maps more » Which has 6 links
when you login into google.co.in you see Web Images Groups News more » which has 4 links
google records the stats of users based on thier location and customizes the links the users most use |
Why do it on country stats when you can do it on individual user stats? |
at present i dont think you have that option in google.
you only have personalized homepage etc.. i dont see any options to sort them individually..
Maybe it should be available in future.... |
Yay, I'm getting it, too! :)
It works on the Image site, too. And in the Web search results, though not the Image search results. There's also a "New!" sign next to the Video tab, but that might be just me.
I'm only annoyed that this is on IE7, when I happened to be adjusting it, and not on Firefox, which I mainly use. Though at least I won't be as likely to lose it by clearing by cache+cookies.
