i wonder how well this plays with defaulty mouse-wheel behaviours such as page scrolling and ctrl+mousewheel for fontsize increase/decrease.

There is no doubt its a nifty idea and a nice piece of code – but is it worth breaking away from common conventions and perhaps confusing your visitors?

but def needs more inspection to see how well it stands up :)

I think it should only be used on pages that don't have a scroll bar to the right, i.e. that only fill the contents of the actual browser window... or else it would be too confusing indeed...
