Lots of New Secret Google Services Uncovered (View post)TOMHTML | Friday, July 28, 2006 17 years ago • 18,789 views |
Good pick Tony
I discovered the "sandbox" subdomain a week ago, and when I have tried to sign in, it got an error. But I thought that it was because of I don't have a "google checkout account".
you're the best :) |

I may be mistaken but I guess Google Events is related to the option called 'add event info' in your gmail account: it turns on (right over the 'check spelling button') when you are writing a new mail. What it does? You can make your own customized invitation system: what event, when, whom, etc. Then even better: you can schedule it: e.g. the very same invitation card can be sent daily/ monthly/ yearly at 3 pm or at 5 am etc. So it is excellent as a reminder for regular events. You also have a list of the people invited, and can enable them to invite more people, or not etc. etc. It is worth checking out. :) |

Wooow!!
You're great Tony!
is anyone able to create a "test" account with https://sandbox.google.com/accounts/ManageAccount ?? |
Caleb E | 17 years ago # |
I bet events is an events search. in the begining, google local (/maps) was based on addresses Google found in the regular web crawl. I bet this would be for events google found in the web + public google calendars. |
Tony Ruscoe | 17 years ago # |
iZeitgeist said: >> is anyone able to create a "test" account
Yep, I think so. Give it a go!
BTW, Ludwik's put it on Digg if anyone's feeling like they want to get Diggy wit' it:

I got the french version of the titles of the services : it's more explicit! |
Tony Ruscoe | 17 years ago # |
TOMHTML – that's cool! I didn't even think of that. It looks like you can get most language versions too... surely this means they're more than just experimental services. Otherwise, why would they bothered getting them translated? |
iZeitgeist | 17 years ago # |
I soon as I am in I will post a screenshot! |

Google Online Assessment points to: http://www.google.com/goaexam |
Philipp Lenssen | 17 years ago # |
What do the French titles read Tom? |
Philipp Lenssen | 17 years ago # |
Ah, I can see it by appending ?hl=fr and ?hl=de for German:
Google Online Assessment – Évaluation en ligne de Google – Google Online-Bewertung
Google Guess – Recherche intuitive Google [intuitive search?]- Google Guess [German isn't translated] |

Google Guess – Recherche intuitive Google > intuitive search Google Online Assessment > it looks like "Google Eval", for them who they're paid for analyze SERPs Google mobile marketplace > "bourse mobile" -> in these case, "bourse" something like Wall Street, NASDAQ, etc.. |

oh i dont understand a bit maybe i am not worth to know it...
can you explain the ABCD of sandbox and what it deals with.. why users cannot login ? |
Ludwik Trammer | 17 years ago # |
Is there Polish version? ;) |
Philipp Lenssen | 17 years ago # |
Yep:

Tony Ruscoe | 17 years ago # |
Great idea!
It's shame they order the services differently for each language though. |
Thomas | 17 years ago # |
Username and password do not match. (You provided <email address>)
Thats what I get, but I can still log into everything else. |
iZeitgeist | 17 years ago # |
does anybody know at which address googlers check their mail ? |
Jake's View | 17 years ago # |
That's what I get too. |
Art-One | 17 years ago # |
Great discovery Tony... I'll try the dutch translations... |
Art-One | 17 years ago # |
Well I didn't refresh this thread... I see Philipp was a bit quicker ;-) |
Ludwik Trammer | 17 years ago # |
I wouldn't trust those translations. Isn't they made by the users via "Google in Your Language" service?
For example "Rynek telefonii komórkowej", polish version of "Mobile Marketplace" sounds like market with GSM deviaces. I doubt this is correct translation.
"Wydarzenia Google" means "Google News". We don't have Polish version of Google News. This probably means that they are preparing one. Hurrey! :) |
TOMHTML | 17 years ago # |
subdomain "sandbox"... maybe a link with the blog created by Eric Case (http://www.blogger.com/profile/16243347) called http://sandb0xes.blogspot.com/ ... ? |
Sankar Anand | 17 years ago # |
i registered myself with the test account can anybody please tell me how to add those services ?????
please>>> |
Philipp Lenssen | 17 years ago # |
> I wouldn't trust those translations. Isn't they made > by the users via "Google in Your Language" service?
But don't translators perhaps get more context info when they translate to improve translations?
> i registered myself with the test account can > anybody please tell me how to add those services ?????
Sankar, when you're in the Google Account registered through the Sandbox, enter this URL: https://sandbox.google.com/accounts/CreateAccount?service=guess&continue=https%3A%2F%2Fsandbox.google.com%2Fbuyer%2Fwelcome.html (Replace "guess" with different code names listed on Tony's page, right-hand colum of the first table: http://ruscoe.net/blog/2006/07/whats-in-googles-sandbox.asp) |
TOMHTML | 17 years ago # |

Tony Ruscoe | 17 years ago # |
OK – I've now made screenshots of the My Account page in the following languages:
Arabic, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Icelandic, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, Vietnamese and Welsh

I still can't get to the actual page using the links. I can get to the Get Started page, but then it leads me to a File not Found or the Google home page. |
TOMHTML | 17 years ago # |
Anyone found something about GDrive / Platypus ? :o)
|
Ludwik Trammer | 17 years ago # |
> But don't translators perhaps get more > context info when they translate to improve translations?
I have translator account and – no. We got no additional info or one sentence, but very rarely. So often at first translations are pretty strange. For example "Search History" could have two meanings – "history of searches" (the correct one in Google's case) or "search in history" (schoolar search engine for historians?). Polish translator didn't know which meaning is correct and chose... the second one. So in google.pl we have "Search in history" ("szukaj w historii"). The correct version would be "historia wyszukiwania". |
Sohil | 17 years ago # |
My guess Events will be more like a Google Alerts. Email you when about a particular item or news happening. Google Guess : We already have Suggest Real Estate Search : Sounds Reasonable Marketplace : I guess Workplace : Yep, Definitely Scrapbook : Like the Health "Basket" we were discussing about ? RS2 : That doesn't make sense does it ? Online Assessment : Maybe tied to Scholar or Pagerank probably. Maybe it assesses the content on a page. Voice : VOIP ? |

<< You need to create a new one just for this sandbox service, Ruscoe says. And that seems to involve registering your credit card, so I gave it a pass. >>
From: http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/blog/060728-72457
Danny, if you're reading this, you're following the wrong link. All you need to do is remove everything after the "service=sierra" parameter from the URL you're directed to (which is for the Google Checkout service) and you'll be able to register an account without entering your credit card details... or just follow this link:
https://sandbox.google.com/accounts/NewAccount |

Google Guess= Guess what new service or feature Google will release next.
Over time, there will be a ranking system to recognize the accuracy of our guesses.
Down the road, you will even be able to place wagers on the what the next release will be via Google Checkout.
A feature still being tested is the ability to wager on individual guessers themselves, sort of like betting on a race horse. Tony |

<<A feature still being tested is the ability to wager on individual guessers themselves, sort of like betting on a race horse.>>
I'll hedge my bets in that case, by putting money on both Philipp and Tony R. |

in the adding the service when i try adding gmail i got this message
Sorry, Gmail is in a limited test period. If you have not been invited to open a Gmail account, please sign up to be notified when important Gmail developments occur. |
Sankar Anand | 17 years ago # |
Check out my screenshot below http://smartjean4u.googlepages.com/serviceadds.gif
thanks Tony and philip
Now our next goal is to enter or test that service...
we can do that at any cost...... |
Niraj Sanghvi | 17 years ago # |
Tony, I tried your link (https://sandbox.google.com/accounts/NewAccount) but got an error that said my email does not exist (I was using my gmail address) when I tried to signup. |
/pd | 17 years ago # |
Niraj, create a new account (Sandbox account) first and then follow PL steps indicated here
http://blogoscoped.com/forum/47972.html#id58001 |
Niraj Sanghvi | 17 years ago # |
I get the error I mentioned when trying to create a new Sandbox account :( |
Tony Ruscoe | 17 years ago # |
Niraj: Perhaps you need to try an email address other than your Gmail one... not sure why it wouldn't work otherwise (unless they're preventing new accounts from being created). |
/pd | 17 years ago # |
Niraj: I used my yahoo email id to create a sandbox account.. this works.. unless they have pulled /prevented account created within the sandbox!! |
Kirby Witmer | 17 years ago # |
it didn't work for me to enter my gmail address.. i had enter a different one
|
Niraj Sanghvi | 17 years ago # |
Weird that it didn't work with gmail...now I'll have to use this other account under a different email to try the new services :/
But at least it worked. Thanks, guys! |
Sankar Anand | 17 years ago # |
those who add all services please check your test google account now
i think you only have two services now...
or do you have all the added services ? |
Philipp Lenssen | 17 years ago # |
You are right Sankar, they seem to have fixed it. I also only see two services now. I updated the post... |
Step | 17 years ago # |
more radical idea for Google Guess – this is to integrate with GDS (Desktop Search), and the idea is to provide context sensitive links without you having to ask for them. Of course, they've already got some basic attempts in the Sidebar, but this one goes further.... (cue spooky music)
That's just my guess, of course. It's the first thing I thought of when I saw "Google Guess". Probably been reading too much of John Battelle's Searchblog. (shrug) |
/pd | 17 years ago # |
yeah, this was pulled about an 1 hr ago..
weaver and rs2 is on my list.. |
Alex Ksikes | 17 years ago # |
Note google is now trying to get some traffic from this scoop. sandbox.google.com now redirects to Google checkout; one of the newer google services. |
Ionut Alex. Chitu | 17 years ago # |
This is happening from Google Checkout's launch. You're not paying attention. |
iZeitgeist | 17 years ago # |
I created my account as trustedtestergoogle.com and I was accepted!!
Gmail is not accepted, but as logic as it seems @google.com is.
Tony, don't you forget the service name 'tester' for the 'Trusted Tester' program -> https://www.google.com/accounts/login?service=tester
|
Philipp Lenssen | 17 years ago # |
iZeitgeist, I tried to add that one but it didn't work... |
iZeitgeist | 17 years ago # |
For me neither, I am sure this needs digging more dirt before it's figured out! |
Sankar Anand | 17 years ago # |
yes once if we get into the cave of google trusted tester we can know thier new products.
does anybody have a google employee as your friend ? i tried to add marisa mayer in orkut's friend's list but no reply from her. Even scraped on her birthday and wished her but no reply.. Lol.... |
/pd | 17 years ago # |
I did not do screen scraps.. for tis incident.. not a single one :(-
Screen scraps are important we need to squeeze more info out of this by visuals. do we have any screen scraps to share ??
I would like to see whatever scrap forum members have. How can we all upload to a common image repositiry ?
Can we just link in here your url here ?? |
Sankar Anand | 17 years ago # |
does hot linking works ? |
Sankar Anand | 17 years ago # |

NOw you wont even seee any of the services in your account!
Not even try new services... |
TOMHTML | 17 years ago # |
Yes, they have erased all services :-( |
Ionut Alex. Chitu | 17 years ago # |
They weren't working anyway (for us). The screenshots obtained are more than enough. |

Google Guess:
We guess what service Google is going to launch next. Then, if Google likes the idea, they implement it and launch it.
Only kidding! |
stefan2904 | 17 years ago # |
a comment in my blog to this topic:
>>Google Guess >Already exist, Google Suggest
>>Google Weaver aka M Scrapbook: >Notebook?
>>Google RS2 >is Codename from Calendar
>>Google Online Assessment: >Wotk together online maby? |
Tony Ruscoe | 17 years ago # |
Oops. When I just tried to login to my sandbox account, I first got a server error message and then I got the following:
<< Sorry, your account has been disabled. For more information about Google Accounts, please consult our Help Center at http://www.google.com/support/accounts/. >>
Looks like I upset someone at Google! |
TOMHTML | 17 years ago # |
Stefan > bad comment, because : Google Guess = "google intuitive search" Google Weaver = maybe a *M*edical Scrapbook Google RS2 is not CL2 |
TOMHTML | 17 years ago # |
Tony > Really ? Because I can yet access to my "account page" https://sandbox.google.com/accounts/ManageAccount
but useless without the services ;) |
Tony Ruscoe | 17 years ago # |
TOMHTML > Yep. But don't forget that my email address was on all those screenshots, so they'd know exactly which account was mine. I guess they have genuine people testing these services so they can't just go closing down everyone's accounts in case they close down one that's genuine... |
stefan2904 | 17 years ago # |
it was just an idea from an user called michfrm... |
Tony Ruscoe | 17 years ago # |
So anyway, I just created another sandbox account, so you should be able to still do this.
However, it looks like they've now disabled/removed all services apart from Google Checkout (sierra). (I didn't check all of them, but all the ones I tried failed – including both "real" services and these new ones...) |
stefan2904 | 17 years ago # |
i am able to create a sandbox account but i am not able to log in.... |
Philipp Lenssen | 17 years ago # |
> [ To Philipp: Check this page in Opera.]
Thanks, it's fixed... please refresh (the stylesheet and HTML changed). |

Hi all,
I think I found at least one meaning (h9), and maybe another one : RS2. Sorry, my post is french written, but it's a good opportunity to test ... Google translate :-) http://adscriptum.blogspot.com/2006/07/google-rs2-traducteur-automatique-de.html Jean-Marie |
Mysterius | 17 years ago # |
Could "Voice" refer to a sort of Google VOIP project? The feature suggest page for Google Talk has "Calls to landlines" as one of the options to vote on. See: https://services.google.com/inquiry/talk_suggest

In order to complete what said Jean-Marie Le Ray : He thinks that Google RS2 = automatic translator for RSS (R+S*2 :-D) feeds.
Google Weaver > H9 maybe a link with "HAL 9000" http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/965/901/400/h9.jpg |
TOMHTML | 17 years ago # |
Hey, english readers Jean-Marie Le Ray have posted that for you : http://adscriptum.blogspot.com/2006/08/google-rs2-google-weaver-h9-google.html
There is more explainations about Weaver – RS2 – H9 ;-) |
