I am conducting this experiment to evaluate how effective and accurate the Gmail filter is to massive SPAM.

Sankar: gmail gives for me not a lot of spam, yahoo & hotmail gives me a lot, so it depends from person to person I think...
|
yeah, i get tons more false positives on hotmail and yahoo and a lot less total spam. You also have to consider that if your gmail address is shorter it's more spammable, and gmail addresses tend to be shorter because fewer good short ones are taken up. |
I have an idea. I'm going to clear my spam, and from now on if a spam message goes into my inbox I'll open it then mark it as spam so it's "read". Then I can compare the number after the word spam in the left hand navigation to the actual number of spam messages to get a percentage of false positives |
I don't know... lately Gmail hasn't catched all my spam message 100% accurately! I actually had about five messages enter my mailbox in the last few days. |
Caleb,
Great idea!
What I do too to keep all my precious SPAM, I just created a filter with "Has the words:" enter "in:spam", then just "Forward it to" a seconday address and "Delete it". This never clutters my inbox, all the SPAM stays in the Trash, and I get to keep it all in another inbox. |
