Blogger to use Google Accounts?Tony Ruscoe | Wednesday, August 9, 2006 17 years ago • 9,639 views |
For those of you that don't subscribe to my blog feed (which is understandable as sometimes I post boring personal stuff) you might have missed this:
Blogger.com to finally use Google Accounts? http://ruscoe.net/blog/2006/08/bloggercom-to-finally-use-google.asp
Basically, it appears that the Google Accounts "NewAccount" page for the "blogger" code name (https://www.google.com/accounts/NewAccount?service=blogger) changed recently so that it no longer produced the usual error: "The page you requested is invalid.” (You can't actually link your Google Account to your Blogger sign in yet but I think there's definitely no doubt that it's going to happen at some point.)
Does this mean Google are actually going to start developing new features for Blogger again? |

Yep, I remember the Blogger team blogging about this a while ago. |

BTW, it's probably worth mentioning that the usual Login URLs [1, 2] have already been active for ages but have never worked for either Google or Blogger accounts. The NewAccount [3] and CreateAccount [4] pages have only recently started to not display an error though.

Sohil – are you sure? I've never read anything official from Google/Blogger about this and can't seem to find any reference to it on Blogger Buzz. Do you have a link? |
Haochi | 17 years ago # |
I can sign in with my blogger username and password. |
/pd | 17 years ago # |
Tony, this is a new sign up ..
Haochi, were you abel to 'continue" using blogger from this URL ??
https://www.google.com/accounts/CreateServiceAccount?service=blogger |
Tony Ruscoe | 17 years ago # |
Haochi – so can I now. That's new too then. (Still, it's not linked to your Google Account though.) |
Sohil | 17 years ago # |

Sohil | 17 years ago # |

TOMHTML | 17 years ago # |
Hey, in my 'sandbox' account, RS2, Weaver and the others* are back!
(*) no link with LOST :-P |
dpneal | 17 years ago # |
How do you know about them then Tony? |
Tony Ruscoe | 17 years ago # |
TOMHTML: Really? Maybe they've reinstated them for an accounts that had signed up to them. (I can't test this as they're not allowing new RS2/Weaver accounts to be created and my old account was disabled!)
Here's a screenshot of the full list I could sign up for using my sandbox account yesterday:

(Link broken intentionally so it doesn't load the image here.)
Most of these are live already – except for SSD and Mobile Download Console but you can add both those to your live Google Account anyway. |

Tony Ruscoe | 17 years ago # |
dpneal: All will be revealed soon. I'm working on a post that will help explain... |

tomhtml have you tried this link https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=blogger
enter your blogger username and password and you will be re-directed to blogger dashboard
|
TOMHTML | 17 years ago # |
oh ok sankar, I entered my email address and not my user name. It works now ;-)
but the same action with this address https://sandbox.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=blogger still doesn't work. |

strange, the authotication process is forking .. not only is is consoldiating the process a regular google account, it's forked into another service like blogger..
I used my blogger usid and pwd and it just passed it thru to my blogger dashboard. So this means at the back end, they are consolidating authentication. Maybe this will now roll-out to Wrtiely and other 'aquired' servcies...
I hope they do that, then we all have want we wanted.. a single-signon for multuiple service streams!! :)_
