6384 MB Storage remainingHaochi | Thursday, August 10, 2006 17 years ago • 6,072 views |
You won't believe this, I got 6 GB from Google Picasa for free. http://img77.imageshack.us/img77/9595/zpo3.png What happen? |
Philipp Lenssen | 17 years ago # |
250 MB for me. Weird. |
Haochi | 17 years ago # |
Could someone upgrade it for me accidently? |
/pd | 17 years ago # |
your lucky.. dont cry wolf.. just keep quiet!! :)_
|
Inferno | 17 years ago # |
How much space have you used Philipp?
As for : Could someone upgrade it for me accidentally? I think that someone needs to be 'logged in'. And the upgrade option is no longer there. May be you were just lucky that they selected you randomly may be.
I think Google wants to see what you do when you suddenly get huge space. Upload more or keep it empty. My suggestion Upload as much as you can may be this will encourage them to increase everyone's space.

Still 250 here too. So Will Google reimburse people who paid for the 6 Gig. |
TOMHTML | 17 years ago # |
ME TOO :-D You are currently using 1 MB (1%) of your 6394 MB. |
Tony Ruscoe | 17 years ago # |
<< Will Google reimburse people who paid for the 6 Gig. >>
I doubt it. Maybe they'll just send out some free t-shirts instead? :-D |
NateDawg | 17 years ago # |
I'm still stuck at 250 MB :( |
Sohil | 17 years ago # |
So is this a mistake or Were they just testing how people would react to subscription based products ? |
Sankar Anand | 17 years ago # |
You are currently using 12 MB (5%) of your 250 MB.
i think hoachi and tom upload as more as possible so that they can offer us ..... |
Niraj Sanghvi | 17 years ago # |
250 MB here as well. |
Sankar Anand | 17 years ago # |
hoachi and tom whats your link in picasa ?
so that i can add you .... and also some possibility of :-)..... |
TOMHTML | 17 years ago # |
My link in picasa ? http://picasaweb.google.com/tomhtml but I don't know how I get theses gigabytes...
and in picasa, I wanted to add a video online and it alerts me "Videos cannot be shared AT THE PRESENT TIME", so maybe in future... |
NateDawg | 17 years ago # |
maybe the key is the amount of files you have in your account. Haochi is at 10 MB; TomHTML is at 63 MB (1% of 6384 MB). I'm going to have to upload some bulk photo's later on :)- |
TOMHTML | 17 years ago # |
I'm only at 2MB (1 MB before today)... |
NateDawg | 17 years ago # |
there goes that theory :(O well, back to the drawing board. |
Art-One | 17 years ago # |
Well Google I want to test that space too... Feel free to give it to me too ;-) |
Sankar Anand | 17 years ago # |
One thing i understand is that Google creates more curiocity among users.... in an in-direct way......... and microsoft dumb dont know how to do this.... |
Haochi | 17 years ago # |
My link is http://picasaweb.google.com/page.error >>I think that someone needs to be 'logged in'. And the upgrade option is no longer there. No, you don't need to be log in, you just need to have the link for Google Checkout. The upgrade option was there couple days ago.
|
TOMHTML | 17 years ago # |
Some French users have made a good supposition : maybe the 6384 MB are the allowed space on our own space, with Gmail, Picasa, .... GDrive :) Thats why, maybe, new links appeared at top of Gmail...
What do you think about that? |
Art-One | 17 years ago # |
shouldn't gmail make notice of the 6 GB then too? |
dpneal | 17 years ago # |
that is a good possibility tomhtml. i hope gdrive is out soon then :) |
dpneal | 17 years ago # |
Haochi, where did you find that little bar graph of the space you have left? i can't find it in my account. |
Sankar Anand | 17 years ago # |
i am going to fill my space in picasa today and lets see if they give me more and tomhtml
you suggest 6gb is the total memory for all the service ? if so then how come hoachi gets 6gb only for picasa ?
|
TOMHTML | 17 years ago # |
Dpneal > you get this graph when you click on an album and you click on "upload"
Sankar > Yes, 6GB for all Google services. I don't know why Haochi and I got 6 GB, but maybe a bug and a google employee have changed "$picasa_storage" to "$total_storage" :-P
6394MB (Total) – 250MB (Picasa) – 2753MB (Gmail) = 3391 MB Where they come from? |
Sohil | 17 years ago # |
100 more for Page Creator |
Sohil | 17 years ago # |
Sankar, do tell me if it works. |
dpneal | 17 years ago # |
ahh thanks tomhtml. i still only have 250MB :( |
Sankar Anand | 17 years ago # |
sure sohil, i am here to share like others....
tomhtml >6394MB (Total) – 250MB (Picasa) – 2753MB > Gmail = 3391 MB = ? Where they come from? No no Gmail's size is not a fixed. Llets assume it like below
Lets assume a Total of 10,000 GB is allocated for each user 4000 mb for gmail 1000 mb for Picasa (just a bare dream that they will introduce in future) 1000 mb for page creator 1000 mb for blogger 1000 mb for writely 2000 mb for gdrive or ...
|
Sohil | 17 years ago # |
Oh doesn't Blogger allow 300 MB (or was it 250) for photos.
So 2753 + 100 + 250 + 300 = 3403.
So We're Missing 1991. I thought Writely just had a File Size Restriction.
Anyway, Since AOL is offering 5 Gig Storage. Google will look weird not matching or topping this. |
TOMHTML | 17 years ago # |
We have 2 possibilities : - Total = 6394MB, so according to Sohil there is 1991MB from somewhere - Total = 10000 MB according to Sankar. 453 MB from somewhere. strange story
and some guys tells me that maybe someone pay the 6 GB for me (do you remember, before the launch of checkout, I was able to see the link "buy 6GB for $25!"), but in these case why have I 6,384 MB and not 6000 MB ? ;) |
Art-One | 17 years ago # |
TOMHTML mayb storage counts up like with GMail |
Sohil | 17 years ago # |
Then, it seems weird for Google not to say it. Is it a bug or are they really testing ? |
Sohil | 17 years ago # |
What other Google services are expected to launch ?
GDrive, Writely (a new version in the fall).
Will Google throw at Gig at both of these then ? Since Spreadsheets didn't have a restriction, I'm assuming Writely won't either. |
Haochi | 17 years ago # |
>>why have I 6,384 MB and not 6000 MB ? That's an "addition" 6 GB. 6144 + 256 = 6400 MB, Google did the math wrong. |
David Hetfield | 17 years ago # |
lol.. youre right.. the should Google some of their calculations.. http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGGL,GGGL:2006-28,GGGL:en&q=2%2B2

soon something will be new in picasa of google....... ?
The Current changes in Picasa are 1. Inferno reported there is no upgrade option no more.... 2. while uploading pictures from picasa to web-album, i found a button called upgrade......when i click it it re-directs me to account page of picasa 3. A Sudden change of name Google Photos
Ok here is what i guess Google Will rename Picasa WebAlbums (Test) to Google Photo When all other products contains labs or beta why picasa contains "TEST " is this something unique ?
in the old version of picasa it has hello a site that can be used to share photos but now google uses web-albums....
Within the recent months we will see many releases and changes in Googles..........Wriltey,G-Drive,Google Photos.. Etc... More space
i think i must stop dreaming... bad minded....
|
Sohil | 17 years ago # |
Seems fair Sankar, However it's a shame that Hello hasn't been taken anywhere by Google.
Sankar your ideas seem to make sense more and more if you think about it. |
Sankar Anand | 17 years ago # |
what i think is this may be a google error or bug for hoachi
Hoachi you did the math wrong not google
why are you calculating your remaining spacE ?
you have a total of 6394 not 6384 ... ok
By default you have 250 mb + an upgrade which is 6GB
so 250mb + 6b i.e 6 x 1024 = 6144
> 250 + 6144 = 6394 that is equal to your current total space........
So now Google has added 6gb to your account.... and google did the math well. You failed in your Exam.. Lol.... |
TOMHTML | 17 years ago # |
hé hé hé good calculation Sankar so Google "offered" us 6 GB, pretty cool but why? I don't have headaches! |
Haochi | 17 years ago # |
Wow, I thought it was 256 MB (1/4 of a GB)... Hmm. |
Inferno | 17 years ago # |
Awesome speculations guys... but I think Writely might not be far away. May be Google will release Writely as Microsoft might be releasing their Live Writer this week.

I just upload all my photos (about 1 GB) to Picasa web. lol... But it's actually less than 200 MB on Picasa Web, I just want to fill it up! http://googlified.com/2006uploading-pictures |
Sankar Anand | 17 years ago # |

but i want you to praise for your fantastic header idea.... |
TonyB | 17 years ago # |
I purchased the 6 GB upgrade last week when I got to about 222 MB on my Web Albums account. As of this morning, I show:
You are currently using 222 MB (3%) of your 6394 MB.
Tony |
Inferno | 17 years ago # |
How come you purchased last week. The link as not there for a very long time. |
TonyB | 17 years ago # |
>How come you purchased last week. The link as not there for a very long time.
The upgrade option is only available in the US right now. Even then, the link was missing for me for about 4 days until it came back last Monday and I made my purchase.
Tony |
Haochi | 17 years ago # |
Thanks Sankar ;) Yes, it's US only, for now. "This option(upgrade) is only available to US addresses at this time." |
