http://www.google.de/support/jobs/bin/answer.py?answer=39866 What are google jobs doing with openoffice?? mayb just customizing it , or its format for their own products? or is it more than that? |
maybe its for Google Office.. :) |
This was quite some time ago. Actually it was when Sun and Google made a deal (Sun would bundle Google Toolbar with Java, and Google would "scour" for oppurtunities for improve OOo). Google Office was predicted back then.
It's a feasible option for Google. They can market a Google flavour of OOo that offers sync with Online Apps (Writely, Spreadsheet etc) |
<<maybe its for Google Office>> Writely? I don't think they're going to go beyond online office anytime remotely soon
On one of the ted talks (technology entertainment design – ted.com/tedtalks) David Pogue (http://ted.com/tedtalks/tedtalksplayer.cfm?key=david_pogue) talks about software simplicity and how complicated, messy, and slow software has become. I'm not sure where, but I either read, heard, or saw in a video that OpenOffice was reconsidering the office suite approach to office applications and working with google on a new approach for simpler office applications. Does anybody know what I'm talking about? I'd like to look back on this but I can't remember where I got this from and I had no luck with a web search or search history search on google. |
maybe when theyll do so, Writely's interface will change..
oh and another thing.. heres the conference meeting of Sun Microsystems & Google. http://www.sun.com/2005-1004/feature/ (it was almost a year ago :)) |
DPic, OOo is taking a more Firefox approach yes. It will have similar plugin architecture. Is this What you're talking about ? |
No, although I have heard about that as well. I'm talking about the whole concept of an office suite re-invented by OOo and Google. A new, simple, and uncluttered way of doing things instead of having Open Office Writer, Math, Calc, Draw, Base, etc. |
