Okay, this is old, but it's good to travel back a bit.

Weird, ey? That they've still got it up. |
Yeah, the original search resulted in JewWatch.org on top... it's now the second domain/ third result, but Google's "offensive" disclaimer remains. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=jew&btnG=Google+Search
Another disclaimer pops up when you enter [failure]. |
I found this in a GB post here: http://blogoscoped.com/archive/2005-09-29-n85.html
"Sometimes, Google warns you about its results, especially when they might seem like promoting hate sites (of course, only someone misunderstanding how Google works could think it’s them promoting hate sites). Enter [jew], and you will see a Google-sponsored link titled “Offensive Search Results” leading to this explanation." |
Oops, it's JewWatch.com, not .org. It's an anti-Jewish website that was once on top of the organic results in Google if you entered "jew"... possibly an unlikely search for anyone starting serious research. In any case, Google gave in to the political pressure and changed their search results to display a disclaimer in the ads section (even though they say "Because of our objective and automated ranking system, Google cannot be influenced by these petitions," apparently they *were* influenced). |
Keep in mind that Sergey is Jewish. The anti-semitism of the old Soviet Union is what drove his family to emigrate to the U.S. Google is trying not to censor, so it adds the disclaimer instead of censoring out the site. |
Thanks for the info guys. |
