I love Windows Live's Image Search, so I was casually searching for images for a Project and Noticed that they changed Image Search to match Google.
Before you could continuously scroll (Web and Image), Expand or Collapse Results.
So Microsoft has decided to abandon any real innovation and just copy Google.
Before for the Image Search, If Moused over would increase in size and When Clicked would open the Page in a Frame with the Results in a Left Frame. It's current behaviour matches Google.
What the Hell was Microsoft Thinking ? |
Yes, they developement of Windows Live Search is really funny. Firtly they had some interesting ideas although in general people prefered Google. So now they abandoned everything and their interface is pure copy of Google. I wonder what they will do when Google finally realise new SERP which they are trsting for so long time. By the way I use it for few days and I have to say, that it´s really cool, I feel more space, more stress on results, really good move – I hope they will really use it. |
Stupid Microsoft lost another User.
The original Live was so great. The Image Search in particular received rave reviews. |
Sohil: I'm still seeing precisely what you describe as what they "changed" (continuously scroll (Web and Image), Expand or Collapse Results), etc. right now. I've posted a two screen caps taken about 5 minutes ago here:

Btw, Ask now has it's own image crawl (since Jan) and now provides the Zoom related search tool for some searches.

Also, I was surprised to see that with "new Live" (which from what you write might now be the old search, they don't/didn't offer a feature that Google, Ask, and Yahoo offer. That is, being able to search for images directly from the web search window. Lots of searchers have no idea that image search even exists. Pics of Homer Simpson

What's Going On ?
I don't see it.
Look at these Screenshots. I Moused Over the 3rd Image (No Effect, See) http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/5316/untitledzb6.png

Gary can you show me a few Screenshots on how Web Search is looking like. |
Ask is pretty nice and some cool innovations, but so far Live.com has offered me better results (even compared to Google).
Thanks for the info, I'll definitely try Ask.
Why does Microsoft do this to only me :( First Live Drive showing up on my account and now this. |
Is anyone seeing the same things I see ? |
Live have recently had problems with their browser detection. The innovative stuff works on IE, but Mozilla and other browsers are being incorrectly detected, and the interface tends to drop back to a simpler versions.
In particular this has happened with Live Local, which is being sent to a static map, rather than the dynamic mapping we have come to expect.
The same thing is happening in image search – it works well in IE, but falls back to a far simpler system in other browsers. |
As zmarties said try in IE 6 . All live products are currently compatible with IE 7 |
Ya it works for IE7. Thanks Guys. The Weirder thing is, It works in Flock too!!!!!!
Thanks Again. |
I just tried (7:05 EDST) with Firefox 1.5.0.7 and all of the image search features work without any issues for me.
That includes: + Continuous scrolling + Expand or Collapse + Mouseover to expand image on results page + Page in a Frame with the Results in a Left Frame

For quite some time, I don't have the new features in Firefox, so maybe they only work in IE and US (?!) |
Well I'm using Firefox 2.0 RC 1, If that's anything. I'm in the US btw. |
