Strange translation

Hi,

I just noticed on Google Groups, that if you go to change your profile, some of the field labels look like machine translation from English to German.

"Quote" should be "Motto", not "Anführungszeichen" (= quotation mark)
"Location" should be "Wohnort", not "Standort"

I would have thought they would do all translation by fluent or native speakers. How does it look like in other languages?

Is this Google groups or the new Google groups beta?

I think Google use volunteers and local offices to do their localization but it seems that the translators probably work on the UI strings entirely out of context and then don't carry out online QA checks... bad, bad, bad!

It is on the old one.

Tony, this sounds like a good explanation. Bad indeed.
