I have a quick overview posted here of an early beta.
http://www.resourceshelf.com/2006/10/12/askcom-launches-its-first-mobile-search-product-aerial-images-come-to-mobile-search/

The url is http://mobile.ask.com or save a keystroke and go to http://m.ask.com . In some cases, the system will note an mobile browser and redirect from http://www.ask.com

Perhaps most noteworthy is that mobile maps portion of the service include aerial images. At launch, U.S. locations only but expect that to change soon.

For example:
The two United Airlines terminals at O'Hare Airport in Chicago:

or

Fenway Park in Boston
   http://digbig.com/4ngwk

Btw, on an unrelated note: RSS Smart Answers are beginning to roll out internationally. More here.

RSS Smart Anwers (using a U.S. example) takes an RSS feed and places the info at the top of a results page. Example:
FDA Recalls (food recalls)
http://www.ask.com/web?q=fda+recalls&qsrc=0&o=333&l=dir
Blogs
http://www.ask.com/web?q=google+blogoscoped&qsrc=1&o=333&l=dir
Tropical Storm/Hurricane Advisories and News

Thanks dpneal.

I wasn't aware of aerial images on Google Mobile using the actual web site, just the download app that doesn't work for my phone. Could you point me to where I can get the aerials on my phone sans download?

The same goes for Google Mobile Maps, walking directions and turn by turn directions? Thanks. Appreciated.

Well, you don;t look at the front page of GB and PL is on the story. I have a Treo 700 P and will take a look. But my main point I think still holds true.

1) Many people will not download many types of software
2) Not everyone is a tech geek
3) Many people want the answer, map, aerial for any device

I'm still interested in knowing where I could find aerial imagery, walking directions (a big deal in big cities) and turn by turn directions without needlng to download an app.

A web app that works is almost always cooler than a download. (The Google Maps download also isn't usable on my phone...)

Gary, I have two issues with m.ask.com (cool URL, by the way :)):
- m.ask.com doesn't have a search box, that takes an extra click (it could have one smart box that allows one to search the web, or if other things are related – e.g. if it's an address – then that could trigger other results)
- when I go to Maps and search for [stuttgart, germany], it doesn't find anything...
