Some of them must be using a secret Beta version because, as Jason points out in a previous thread post (http://blogoscoped.com/forum/71311.html#id71341), Lucy also says:
<< Using the Chart Wizard, kids easily produced several different types of graphs. >>
From: http://www.google.com/educators/p_docs_spreadsheets.html
Chart wizard? What chart wizard? We know it's probably coming but it's not been released yet! |

I was also puzzled by this statement, and was wondering if maybe Lucy was referring not to D&S but to the website she mentioned somehow? http://neic.usgs.gov/neis/epic/epic.html |

I think that Google went overboard on their review statements. They should *never* change the verbiage to suit their convenience. Its jsut wrong |

wooow, what a BAD thing they did!!! are you nuts? don't you have anything else to care about in the world? They just wanted to make it consistent.. what's the big deal?
What's up with google-haters? |

nobody here is a google hater. Philip is obviously a google advocate – just look at the title of his blog.
but it is wrong under all circumstances to change direct quotes from other people, without at least citing where an inconsistency was (like a product name change) or changing it to be gramatically correct (adding [xxx] to make something flow better). |

All it would take is for Google to write "Google Docs & Spreadsheets (formerly Writely)".
For now, Google has enough karma that they can burn it. But one day in the future, they'll need to earn it. |

Hey guys I appreciate your perspective. I figured it was OK to change just the product name in the quotes, since the underlying product/technology is the same & that's what people are "testimonializing" about. I'll add a clarification to the top of the page to clear up this ambiguity. |

Jen, your wrong when you say "I figured it was OK to change just the product name" , what one figures OK, is normally suits themselves.
The community is just pointing out that the "testimonializing" is inaccurate.
Clarifications or revert back the edits would be a good thing. After all, we all love google and just want to see the right things being done, in the right way!!

Yeah, the clarification should be posted within a few hours. It will say: Please Note: Where users may have referred to Writely or Google Spreadsheets in their stories, we have substituted the new product name – Google Docs & Spreadsheets.

Wow Jen, Multi Tasking.... I return from the boss's office to see a post from you on this blog AND a new email in my inbox.
Impressive!!
The testimonializing talk reminds me of the old testimonial generator I made after a Matt Cutts post.

Jen, nice move, I'll update the post when the pages changed!
Ryan your Testimonializer reminds me of PageBoost :) http://blogoscoped.com/pageboost/ |

Has the mention of a Chart Wizard been clarified?

Jen, can we expect charts soon? |
Jen Mazzon ![[PersonRank 1] [PersonRank 1]](image/postrank/1.gif) | 17 years ago # |
The clarification is now live at http://www.google.com/google-d-s/tour5.html – I also added brackets around each mention of the product name just to be super duper clear. I've also started pinging those users personally to make sure their OK with the name substitution – so far no one has any objections.
That quote about the charts is actually on a different page http://www.google.com/educators/p_docs_spreadsheets.html – I'll have to check into when we can add the clarification to that page. It turns out that another team put that page together, so I didn't personally speak with those two users (although I happen to know Esther). I'll touch base with them about Lucy's quote, because it does seem wierd since Google Docs & Spreadsheets doesn't currently have a chart wizard. It's kind of a confusing quote because she also mentions an Excel worksheet...maybe that's where the chart wizard came in??? Anyway, I'll check up on it.

I like the testimonializer...especially this one: >>Your site is exactly what our business has been lacking. I would gladly pay over $600 for Your site. You company is truly upstanding and is behind its product 100% I think almost anyone would be willing to pay much more than $600 for Google's site. |
