they are groups created by google employees for google employees, i'm not sure what you mean by official...anyways they're not worth much since even google employees are more often found on other social notworking sites and the activity in those groups is so so so low. just look at how long there is in between each topic. this group that you mentioned orkut.com/Community.aspx?cmm=1 ... hasn't even had a post since june.
