I don't believe it was a translation bug; I think it was a typo in the code that selects which message number to show. The right team knows about this; thanks for mentioning it, even though this was small. :)

Google is completing a number of new projects within the SMT team. It is not at all surprising to begin to see these options appear within standard user interfaces.
