Faster Gmail - Using Basic HTML

Gmail introduced a Basic HTML version a long while ago to add support for several older browsers.

I personally find browser crashes are a little too common with large javascript applications running within them and I would rather use something that is just HTML if it can be faster and more reliable.

For the last few days I have been using Gmail in this mode. And it is very nice. You can update your bookmark to: http://mail.google.com/mail?ui=html to go straight to it.

It is also (and please keep this quiet) ad free.

I like this URL:
https:// mail.google.com/mail/h/

Yes – I thought that didn't always work for some reason but it does.

It seems to require the trailing slash though. Otherwise it goes to the "Standard View".

Do you use it too Ionut?

I use it:
- if I have a slow connection
- if Gmail doesn't load normally
- sometimes Opera (even v9) loads this version out of the blue

My favorite Gmail flavor is the mobile one:
http://m.gmail.com

There's nothing faster (and more limited) than that one.

I also use m.gmail.com when everything else fails!

The only problem with HTML view is that you can't change the setting. I also definitely like the m.gmail.com for super fast message viewing!
