Just want to point to Google Map Creator, "a freeware application designed to make thematic mapping using Google Maps simpler."

Anybody experience with this tool?
The next version will also allow 3D output: http://digitalurban.blogspot.com/2006/12/google-earth-data-visualisation-sample.html
Btw, the digitalurban guys have more interesting stuff for Google Earth coming up. Check out their Panorama Viewer preview, for instance: http://digitalurban.blogspot.com/2006/12/digitalurban-announces-panorma-viewer.html |
Yes, a very useful application. This allows GIS users of ESRI software to create Web Mapping to the masses via Google Map Creator, rather than paying vast amounts of money for ArcIMS/ArcServer products. It uses .shp (shapefiles) including.shx (index file) and .dbf (database/attribute file). A quickly produces good results. There is room for expansion but for a first release excellent. One note is you must have the data projected (.prj) with shapfiles so that it can be projected into WGS84 to overlay on the Google Map.
