I vaguely remember hearing Gmail was tested internally for a year, which would mean it was released (internally) in 2003... and maybe the project development was started in 2002?

Use a hack to make Frames resizeable (I found the hack on Mozilla.org). Then you'll see a small line in Gmail, Drag it up and Voila!

I dunno how Zoo found it.

two questions:
1) what happened to " Loading " ?
ive never seen a copyright sentence when Gmail is loading.

2) (off topic) –
anyone knows why Google decided to remove the " G " part out of Gmail's address?

<< As of June 22, 2005, Gmail's canonical URI has been changed to http://mail.google.com/mail/ instead of http://gmail.google.com/gmail/. >>

Probably for the same reason why Gmail became Google Mail in Germany and UK.

whats funny here is that Gmail is still copyrighted 'till 2006 :P

David, when a page says "© 2002 – 2006" (for example) it doesn't mean it's copyrighted until 2006, it means that the copyrighted content was created between 2002 and 2006. The copyright will exist for a further 50 or 75 years after this date (I think – not sure which though).

I was tracking the version number and the contents of this file a while ago, I found that they sometimes change the version but content doesn't change, and sometime only change the names of the variables and functions, like from dA to Bi.
